I’m in a NY state of mind

I’ve decided that the major plus of living in New York is that we are a short train ride from the coolest place in the world – New York City. On Saturday morning, we hopped on the train headed to NYC.

It was also Fleet Week in New York City, a week dedicated to the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. I’m pretty sure the hubby’s uniform got us a huge upgrade for our hotel room. Please just check out this view…

Saturday was a whirl-wind of walking, site seeing, subway riding, dining, and bar hopping with locals. It is unreal that at 3:00am {way too late for this ol’ married couple} that city is still buzzing.

On Sunday we headed down the the financial district and visited the 9/11 Memorial. As we walked down the streets to the entrance of the memorial, I couldn’t help but think about the stories those streets could tell. The closer we got to Ground Zero I started to recognize buildings from pictures and video footage of that fateful morning. It was a sural experience and I highly recommend making this stop on a trip to NYC. The museum is scheduled to open later this year, so the hubby and I will probably take a day trip when it opens.

Monday we only had half a day, so we spent our last few hours in Central Park.

On our way out, we stopped at the 2nd Ave Deli, a kosher deli on 1st Ave {go figure}. At the end of the meal we had chocolate soda which tasted just like it’s name. Surprisingly delicious.

Monday afternoon we found a seat on the train headed back home exhausted and with sore feet, but the trip was definitely worth it.

Tuesday has been for relaxing in a thunder storm, laundry and catching up on Bethany Ever After. I’m 90% sure Millie did not sleep a wink while we were gone as that is all she has done today. Hope your weekend was as great as ours.
