Day 2: Cleveland, OH to Des Moines, IA

(12/1) We hit the road bright and early this morning because we had a big drive ahead. We didn’t think about the time change, so we should arrive even earlier than expected (local time) in Des Moines, IA.

Update: Driving west is awesome because you gain an hour 3 out of 5 days.

In case you didn’t know, toll roads suck. By 9:00am EST (because I have to do this now), we had spent about $30.00. I’m pretty sure Iowa is our first state where we didn’t have to pay any tolls.

We haven’t seen much unless y0u count cornfields and barns… and cows. However, we did pass the World’s Largest Truck Stop and a Trucking Museum. How we didn’t know about these stops is beyond me. My hubby was excited though because he had heard about the Iowa 80.

picstitch (2)We crossed into the Central Time Zone and things are already starting to get confusing. The only good thing is that we can slowly adjust to Pacific time.

The dogs have been great and the car hammock is doing its job wonderfully. Boomer did manage to launch his bone across the car while trying to dig it out of his hiding spot. Even the little prude stands up to look out the window a few times a day.

The radio is already annoying, my husband apparently doesn’t like stickers and he thinks the sun always shines in Iowa… except today when it’s raining.

States traveled through so far: New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa.

P.S: today is our 2 1/2 year dating anniversary! Good news, we still like each other. I guess I can’t complain about the Navy making us spend so much time apart. In return, they stick us in the car together for 5 days in a row. That’s nice of them. 🙂
