Our first major city was Omaha, Nebraska, the baseball mecca according to my FIL. I honestly can’t believe my husband didn’t want to stop and go to the new baseball stadium. We probably would have if we didn’t have two furry passengers in the back seat.
We also did a drive-by of Lincoln, Nebraska. Don’t blink or you will miss it! This trip out west has really made me appreciate the size of Atlanta. I guess growing up there, I never realized how big of a city it really was.
We drove part of the Oregon Trail!!! That was probably the most exciting part of the drive so far.
Our final destination was Cheyenne, WY for the night. This is a western town if I have ever seen one. Okay, the only western towns I have seen are all within the last 3 days, but these people are cowboys. At dinner we were clearly outcasts. The hubby said it was because we weren’t wearing earth tones and tennis shoes instead of boots. I don’t think we spoke to each other during dinner because we were too entertained by people and their conversations. The table behind us was discussing “Easterners” and how “commies” and liberals come from the east. After dinner, we headed over to the mall because we both needed to stretch our legs out. The mall is great as long as you’re in the market for Indian headdresses, boots and dream catchers. One lady had a kiosk and was selling “Wyoming baskets” which were very pretty. For Charleston folks – think sweet-grass baskets – but with whatever type of grass is indigenous to this area. I probably would have bought one, but our car is bursting at the seams as it is.
