Fashion and Fro-yo

I’m working on getting my RNR Seattle Marathon post done, but it will probably take me a while. Check back in a few months 😉 Here is a picture I took of Mt. Rainier during the race to hold you over. Maybe my time would have been better if I wasn’t texting my mom while running that Mt. Rainier was out.

I’ve been extremely busy lately, which has been a nice way to pass time during this deployment. The only downside is that I am spread a little thin and will have to figure out how my husband will fit in once he returns home.

I’m running a 1/2 on July 20th with a friend. I thought I wouldn’t want to run for weeks after the marathon, but I have full on runner’s high in a bad way. Another friend and I are already working on BQ training plans.

I am starting to teach cycling once a week at our local Y. My first class is next week!

I’ve started getting more request for pictures, which is amazing. I had a shoot today for my friend’s new boutique – I even had a few pictures of me snapped! [See my muscles? I think R.I.P.P.E.D is paying off.]

You would not believe how hot it is here! We had to be in the 90’s today. I know that doesn’t sound like much to my Southern peeps, but Washington didn’t invest in AC. We were so hot after the shoot that we were forced to have fro-yo to cool down. It’s a tough life.

Seeing as it is after 1am, I should probably go to bed now.

My first photo shoot

Here is a sneak peek from my first photo shoot. I definitely learned a lot about lighting and how hard working with three kids under 7 can be. I’m going to have to put my money where my mouth is and buy Photoshop – these pictures are just lacking that extra something as far as editing goes. DSC_1445 DSC_1528 DSC_1582

What do you think?

CameraMy husband and parents gifted me with a DSLR camera for Christmas since I always enjoyed taking pictures and also happened to be driving across the country for a Navy move. Since we arrived in Washington, my interest in photography has grown and I am trying to decide if this is something I really want to pursue. Here are a few of my favorite photos I’ve taken. What do you think? I know I would need/want a few more classes before I got started, but I am just curious if my raw talent is good enough to jump in feet first. boysinwater ferry gigi Hawaii Lionspark

Beginners Photography Shoot

Yesterday we had our photography shoot at Bellevue Downtown Park. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t ideal (45 degrees and raining) but I got a few shots to practice new skills. I figured I can throw them up here so they don’t sit in my computer until they are forgotten.

All pictures are very lightly edited for color balance. Other than that, I left them alone.

Silverdale Waterfront Park

Something crazy happened today. I got a [tiny] sunburn!!! Not because it was that sunny… mostly because I am that pale. I met a friend at Silverdale Waterfront park and we headed out for a 4.5 mile trail run followed by lunch overlooking the water. Afterwards, I headed back to the park to do my “homework”. I am taking a photography workshop to learn how to get out of Auto Mode on my fancy camera. I gathered some driftwood and started messing with settings on my camera to see how they effected the picture. I am super visual so I wrote down my settings and stuck it in the picture. Then I got home and realized I could view all of that when I imported my pictures. Oh well, I still like pencil and paper.

Today’s goal was how to get  a bokeh effect – blurred background – in pictures. I think I’m starting to get the hang of it.

Then I set off to take some “fun” pictures keeping my camera off Auto!

Driftwood everywhere you look.

When I was setting up my practice driftwood, I saw a man teaching his daughter (I assume) how to tie her shoe. I thought it was such a sweet moment.

Something else I was supposed to work on was the use of lines to direct the audience where to look. Here are two that I think are pretty good use of eye line. What do you think?

Here are just a few others I snapped. 1-DSC_04981-DSC_0604 1-DSC_05241-DSC_05121-DSC_0540It is supposed to rain for the next few days (and by that I mean the next EIGHT days) so I am happy I was able to get out and enjoy the sun, run, have a beer with a girlfriend and play with my camera. Happy Saturday!
